100km starting at 10.00

This year, we're just running a 100km event, slightly earlier in the month than last time for those glued to Le Tour over the following weekends.

Details for the 200km are below for those who might want to try it on their own – there are plenty of food stops on the route during daytime, and even a bale-out via Amersham.

The ride is quite busy, so please do enter in advance, or at least turn up in good time – the start is somewhat chaotic. All brevet cards must be fully completed at the finish or they will not be validated – stamps, info questions, receipts, details on back and signature.

The start is at The Big Chef, High Road, East Finchley, N2 8AG, 200m north of East Finchley Tube (local map here). There is free parking on the main road, or at East Finchley tube station.

The Suburban Breakout 100km is a fairly easy blast into Hertfordshire – one or two little lumps, but you can go for speed, or you can take it steady (13.5kph minimum). It's an ideal 'first audax', and a good 'first on fixed'. There are two info questions to be answered, and a control at Cottered. We suggest the White Lion in Walkern, slightly further on, if you wish to stop – otherwise there is a village store in Datchworth. About 1000m of upness.

The Muswell Hills 200km is a little more taxing – no AAA points, but it is not flat. Sneaking north of the Chilterns via the Tea Rooms at Marsworth, to the turn at the top of Brill Hill, with a view from the windmill of another Muswell Hill. Back through Amersham and home over the green belt (which is where some have gone astray). 208km with about 1900m of climbing at the last count.

Please note the following:

  • The cycle path to from Dancers Hill will involve dismounting to pass under a tunnel with a narrow walkway and through some barriers. Typical cycle path. There is an alternative using the A1(M)/M25 roundabout, but be aware of fast moving traffic across multiple lanes.
  • There is a walkway next to the deep ford at Redbournbury, but, again, we have offered a road alternative. Trikes may prefer these options, but we hope the rest of you will enjoy the route as planned.

Entry Fees and Forms

On the line entries £5.00 for the 100km – reductions for advance booking (see entry forms).
