Coldwaltham Bignor and Amberley
Posted on Tuesday 5 June 2007 by Marion Houghton
Due to train troubles Jo’s ride started from Horsham rather than Amberley and she had to rethink the route she had planned. However faultless research on her part led the intrepid 6 riders to a delectable tea spot at Southwater Country Park. Then it was on through lovely untrafficked country lanes to a superb pub at Warninglid where we lunched in the sunny garden under a tree.
There was muttered talk of “a loop” in the afternoon, presumably to avoid the humiliation of going straight to the tea stop. It was here that Jo took us down a bridleway that looked OK on map and cut out a lot of busy road ……… A mile, and much mud later, and the party had fallen strangely quiet. However Jo was soon forgiven and we were on our way to tea. 2 punctures then took their toll on the time and we had to abandon the tea stop.
The afternoon proved to be a little longer than expected (a 2nd pub stop was contemplated around 6pm!)but the weather and the scenery was great and we rose to the challenge eventually arriving back at the station just shy of 40 miles. So Nah Nah Nee Nah Nah to those who think one star rides are too short!
Thanks Jo for a great day out.
