1* Ride to Mill Green

Posted on Tuesday 3 July 2007 by Alex McKinnell

Six of us (Alex, Pauline, Jonathan, Maria, Lisa and Elizabeth) met with Charles at St Albans (City) to join his Mill Green ride on Sunday. The threatening weather held off and a history themed ride followed, with talks on 15th Century battlefields, Iron Age forts and 17th century ruins. And of course part of our route was along a roman road.
Anyway, via Sandridge and Coleman Green to Stanborough Lakes for elevenses, followed very quickly after crossing a park to the Green Man, Mill Green for lunch.
A visit to the working water mill at Mill Green followed, after which some of us fortified ourselves with a cream tea in the delightful garden for the journey back.
Back in the sunshine along cycle paths through Hatfield and past London Colney for the 16.30 train home.
18 miles of a very pleasant rain free lightly trafficked ride, and many thanks to Charles Harvey for leading.
