4 Star Ride to Westmill Sunday 14th December

Having tried to get Stephen Taylor to both lead the ride (the dreaded cold had struck me down) at which he did great, and also to write up the blog but with less success, I would like to thank the 7 riders of a gentle, and half day 4 star kind of ride.
Due to my lack of energy and excess of cold we gentled it out of Highbury, and put in a mid-morning re-fuelling stop at the River Garden centre just outside of Hertford, a regular Saturday morning haunt of ours.
Since the day was still cold but brightening up we pushed on to the quaint and friendly tea shop at Westmill, through some lovely flood water/large puddles- Sadly the post office at Westmill is closing, but the tea shop lives on.
We reached Westmill an hour or so behind Schedule, due to our mid-morning stop, making it more of a lunch stop, and not wanting to wade back through the flooding around Nasty and Great Munden we headed through Buntingford, Hare Street, and then back down the traffic calmed old route of the A10 through High Cross and Wadesmill, and then caught the train back from Hertford to Finsbury Park.
As an attempt to get some exercise in without taking up the entire day it went pretty successfully, we did significantly less than the intended 100k but no one complained, and we were on the train by 15.00, which was great.
Thanks again to Stephen for leading, Martin for demonstrating humility when puncture fixing, and Monica, Inez and Angela for their company. and PS, you were all correct, cycling with a cold was not very sensible!
