High and Low

Eleven people showed on a perfect day, a not too stressful number, allowing the leader to perfect his talent for leading from the back or middle of the ride, I argued there is no point trying to out pace Bob Davis or Martin Hayman. We found some steep hills with plenty of chevrons in the morning, finding lunch at The Reformation at Gallowstree Common, a welcoming and friendly pub in a grimly named village.
The afternoon got a bit more leisurely along a series of Quiet Lanes, with ‘points of interest’ pointed out to the interested, the Maharajahs Well (a 19th century Indian taking pity on the poor and thirsty of Oxfordshire) and the cloister and 14th century school at Ewelme. A beautiful spot to wait for a puncture to be fixed, though teas are only on the second Sunday in the month (I think ) and not in August. We clocked up about 90km for the day, and Chris with the Garmin gadget could tell us how much climbing we did, if I could remember, or understand the technology. Thanks to all the sociable 3 star riders who came along and were sociable and supportive and all things positive.
