Playtex Moonwalk 2008 – Volunteer Cyclists Wanted

Posted on Wednesday 13 February 2008 by Nick Bloom

I am writing to you from Walk the Walk, a grant making charity that is not only dedicated to raising money and awareness for vital breast cancer causes, but passionate about encouraging a healthy lifestyle to support prevention. Every year thousands of brave women and men take to the streets in the UK and across the world, wearing decorated bras to Power Walk challenges from 3 miles to 100 miles all with one united aim of raising millions of pounds for vital breast cancer causes.

My reason for writing is that we are in need of a strong team of enthusiastic volunteers for The Playtex MoonWalk 2008. On Saturday, 17th May 15,000 women and men will set off at midnight to Power Walk a marathon around London wearing decorated bras, with that one united aim. We could not hold the event without the help of 1,500 willing volunteers who carry out a variety of essential tasks. more »

John’s extra one

Posted on Friday 18 January 2008 by John Snuggs

I’m planning to organise a ride on Easter Monday, 24 March (yes, that’s right, the day after my Easter Sunday ride).

The plan is to go somewhere south and/or west of London by train and ride back towards London with a tailwind. Details TBA – depends on engineering work. Watch this space.

Current favourite is train to Rowland’s Castle then ride to Guildford through some seriously good scenery and seriously quiet places.

Oh, for a beakerful of the Warm South

It’s been noted (and not just by me) that there’s a considerable Norf Lahndan bias to our rides programme.

Indeed, we’ve been called upon on occasion to undertake the gruelling expedition, before the ride even starts, more »

Congratulations to Simon Miller and Nick Wells for successfully completing PBP (that’s a 1200k audax in under 96hrs). I hope we’ll get a proper report soon, but I gather that, just to add to the punishment, it rained pretty steadily throughout.

CTC Highway Code Victory

Posted on Wednesday 30 May 2007 by Nick Bloom

For those who wonder ‘what the CTC ever did for us’, see the extract below from the CTC website:

Campaign Update

Following a high-profile campaign from CTC, the Government has agreed to amend the Highway Code to improve cyclists’ safety and to encourage drivers to take more care around vulnerable road users.

In total over 40 rules have been changed to the benefit of cyclists.

The new version makes clear that cyclists have every right to cycle on the road. Rules 61 and 63 state that cycle lanes and cycle facilities, are “not compulsory” and the decision to use them “will depend on your experience and skills”. more »
