4 Star Ride to Westmill Sunday 14th December

Posted on Tuesday 6 January 2009 by Keith Butcher

Having tried to get Stephen Taylor to both lead the ride (the dreaded cold had struck me down) at which he did great, and also to write up the blog but with less success, I would like to thank the 7 riders of a gentle, and half day 4 star kind of ride.

Due to my lack of energy and excess of cold we gentled it out of Highbury, and put in a mid-morning re-fuelling stop at the River Garden centre just outside of Hertford, a regular Saturday morning haunt of ours.

Since the day was still cold but brightening up we pushed on to the quaint and friendly tea shop at Westmill, through some lovely flood water/large puddles- Sadly the post office at Westmill is closing, but the tea shop lives on. more »

Fall Flyer

Posted on Monday 13 October 2008 by Bob Davis

On 12th October 2008 I led the Fall Flyer from Amersham tube:

David McColl (with a Titanium Litespeed Tuscany frame that he had got for just £300 via E-bay – superb value) and Brendan Colreavy made up the non-veteran (that’s under 40) contingent, with Roger Cline, Rory Rhodes and me the right side of 40. Nick Dean joined with Rick Featherstone – like Grayson Perry a Mosquito sponsored mountain biker. more »

The Dr Prescribes

Posted on Monday 22 September 2008 by Bob Davis

I met Rory at Golders Green, Angela set off before us from Tally Ho, and we met Nick Dean at Barnet Hill.

Off to Hertford North (the cafe at the station has been revamped, and veggies can now NOT enjoy the bacon rolls. Seriously, it is a lot better).

Roger and Kay, david Colussi and Derek Chiles arrived and we were off to Westmill – Rory decamped after 15 minutes to go back to the Freewheel. more »

Bob’s 4 star ride 20/01/08

Posted on Monday 21 January 2008 by Bob Davis

Bit of a weird day really, but it worked out fine in the end.

The idea was to go into the Chilterns and have a (unofficial)hill-climb race. Bit stupid in January, but it was OK because it didn’t happen! more »
