Bring your National Trust card if you have one. You may get half an hour to look round Sissinghurst. Some bridlepaths. Suitable for hybrids, tourers and mountain bikes. Wye to Canterbury.  And why not? This is a part of NCN Route 18 which has lots of off-road, firstly through woods then riverside with compacted hardcore surface. Some short slopes but walking them is a pleasant option, given the views Suitable for tourers but skinny tyres would struggle. Option to be a tourist (or shopper) after lunch in Canterbury and make your own way back by train from there. If that's for you, think about buying tickets ahead of time. The ride back will be on a different cycle route. Meet St Pancras 08.45 for 09.09 train to Wye, arrive 10.17 (changing at Ashford onto the 10.11 from there), or catch the slower but cheaper and direct 08.36 train from Victoria (arrives 10.17). A smooth hard-surface riverside path (but not the Thames), the sex, lies and Soviet spies of Cliveden House and the tarmac tracks through the ancient woodland of Burnham Beeches. * Easier and shorter rides – about 50km (30 miles) – which are ideal if you are new to cycle touring or prefer a more leisurely ride. Accompanied older children welcome although it is advisable to contact the ride leader beforehand.
** Medium distance 55-85km (35-55 miles) – steady pace yet time to enjoy lunch, etc.
*** Faster and generally longer 70-110km (45-75 miles) and often hilly – suitable for a light touring or road bike ...
**** Faster again, averaging 26-28m/h and approximately 90-100km (55-65 miles), with a brief cafe stop for lunch. These rides are for experienced Audax or Sportive riders training for their next event, or for those who just like it hard. Bring a summer road bike or, if the conditions are likely to be wet, a light winter bike with full mudguards and, preferably, a long rear mudflap. Be prepared to do your turn on the front.
Off-road Mainly on tracks or trails, perhaps muddy – not suitable for lightweight road bikes.
